2. Jack Hunter and the Quest for Akhenaten's Tomb
Airdate: 2008-12-30
Jack meets with Liz Johnson, an NSA operative, who explains that an obelisk with Ugaritic symbols has been found in Egypt, by Dr. Lena Halstrom, linking the pharaoh Akenaten to the lost treasure of Ugarit, Jack agrees to investigate. Jack meets up with Nadia and Tariq in Egypt. While Jack, Lena, and Nadia study the obelisk, Eyhab attempts to steal the obelisk, but Jack and the others thwart the heist only to be accused of stealing the obelisk by Dr. Said. Jack decides that they have no alternative but follow the clues to find the hidden tomb of Akhenaton ...
After having agreed to help Liz Johnson and the NSA, Jack Hunter is transported to the U.S. Air Force Base in Incirlik, Turkey for a face-to-face meeting with Liz. Upon his arrival, Liz informs him that the NSA is competing with the Russian mafia to get the Star of Heaven" the piece could be a great weapon and/or a great energy source. Liz tells him that Schaeffer has an archeological dig in Egypt being spearheaded by INGA HALSTROM (30s, beautiful, and smart), and someone from Jack's past.
Inga has discovered an obelisk that contains Ugartic symbols, and will require Jack and Nadia's help to decipher it. The symbols may lead to Akhenaton's tomb, the pharaoh who raided Ugarit, stole its treasure and the second piece of the Star of Heaven. If they find the tomb, they will find the treasure and the Star.
In Egypt, Inga argues with DR. SAID, the head of the Ministry of Archeology and Antiquities for Egypt, when a strange fog envelops their camp. The fog, containing a hallucenogen, is followed by the arrival of thugs wearing ancient Egyptian head ornamenets, who frighten the Egyptian workers, and destroy the campsite.
Jack, Nadia and Tariq arrive in Egypt. Inga tries to rekindle the romance with Jack who is not interested. Nadia bristles. EYHAB (Said's squirly colleague) takes the foursome to view the obelisk, where Jack, utilizing fancy electronics and knowledge, deciphers the symbols" the obelisk is a decryption device which will point to the location of the Akhenton's tomb. As the foursome complete their work, they are assaulted by a group of men seemingly gaining entry into the compound by taking Eyhab hostage. Eyhab is in on it with them.
The foursome escape with the obelisk, and Eyhab frames them with stealing the obelisk and endangering peoples lives. On the run, and needing to stay off the grid due to Egyptian authorities looking to find them, they board a vessel arranged by Inga to take them to their first destination" El Arman.
Nadia grows more and more suspicious with Jack as he keeps taking calls away from the group (from Liz). On the boat she flirts with the captain, much to Jack's chagrin, when their ship is attacked by, what looks like terrorist bent on boarding the boat. The captain manages to escape from them, drop our foursome off at a river bank and proceed without them, making the terrorist think that they're still on the boat.
Once on safe ground, Nadia reveals to Jack that she doesn't trust Inga, and that she doesn't trust him. Jack rebuffs her intuition. The foursome take refuge in an abandoned building and sleep.
The next morning, a nomad leads the group to the first location, an ancient tower where Jack is able to fit the obelisk into a groove and in so doing, discover the next location" a mountain in the Valley of Death.
Walking down a road, the foursome stop a truck and request a ride and passage. While on the truck, they are attacked by a group of gunmen riding jeeps, they manage to escape" though they land in the hands of COLONEL MUSTAPHA (40s, handsome) a West Point educated man who operated the police department in the area. After hearing what the foursome are up to, he makes a deal with them. He will take Jack, and leave the other three in jail. They will retrieve the treasure so that he, Mustapha, can be rewarded with a post back in civilization.
Suspicion grows with Inga, and Jack. Nadia doesn't know who to trust. The next morning, Jack and Mustapha leave to go to retrieve the next clue. On top of the mountain, Jack triangulates the next location" a group of caves" though he tells Mustapha it's another location.
Jack, Mustapha and his men, are attacked by the group of terrorists who have been chasing Jack. The group are Midian Soldiers belonging to a secret sect intent on keeping Akhenaton's legacy intact and that includes not divulging the location of his tomb. In the melee, Jack renders Mustapha unconscious and takes a Jeep, the obelisk, and heads back to Mustapha's police station to free Nadia, Inga and Tariq.
When he arrives, he finds that the guards have been bound and gagged. As he pushes into the station further, he finds Littman, his men, and Inga holding Nadia and Tariq hostage.
Littman forces Jack to take them to the final location of the tomb, and he drags the group with him.
When the group gets to the last desnitation, they enter a chamber where they discover that there is no treasure or the second piece of the eye. The only thing there was a crude statement in Latin, embedded over the hyrogliphs "For the Glory of Rome." With this, Littman discerns that the Romans had looted the tomb, taken it's contents and left.
Littman seals Nadia, Jack and Tariq in the chamber and leaves. Tariq sits on the ground to contemplate his life, inadvertently pressing on a lever which opens a secret door leading into the real tomb of Akhenaton. Though the treasure and the Eye of the Star are not there, Ugaritic artwork is found.
Littman, Inga and his goons reappear at the hand of Captain Mustapha who have forced them to show him the chamber.
Jack opens Akhenaton's sarcophagus, and find the mummy's eyes are covered with two Roman coins. The Midian Soldiers, having tracked the group, also make it to the chamber where a battle ensues.
Littman manages to escape with Inga, while Jack, Nadia and Tariq are exonerated" Said found out that the Midian Soldiers were accountable for the incident, and not them. Said bids farewell to our group.
Back in his office, Said is visited by Littman and Inga whom come bearing a suitcase full of cash. Said is able to arrange safe passage out of Egypt for both of them.
3. Jack Hunter and the Star of Heaven
Airdate: 2009-01-06
The heroic archaeologist pursues his arch enemy Littmann across Europe, intent on thwarting his evil plan to salvage a deadly artefact. Final part of the adventure trilogy, starring Ivan Sergei, Thure Reifenstein and Joanne M Kelly
Jack Hunter onboard a powerboat staffed with three NSA agents, makes his way quietly in Romanian waters via the Black Sea. The NSA has received intelligence pointing to a meeting that Albert Littman will be having with his boss, Russian Mobster MIKAEL PETROVSKY (early 50s, intelligent, ruthless). Littman awaits word in a waterfront home. NSA Agent Liz Johnson wants Littman brought in, along with the Iris of the Star of Heaven, and thwart his attempts to find the Eye of the Star of Heaven.
The operation goes awry, and the three NSA agents lose their lives" it's a big smear on Liz's record, and Jack is not happy as he was desperately looking forward to getting his hands on Littman.
Back at the U.S. Air Force Base in Incirlik, Turkey Jack shows Liz a coin he took from Akhenaton's tomb confirming that the Romans took the treasure and the Eye of the Star back to Rome, but he believes that, the Eye of the Star and the treasure traveled to Constantinople (Istanbul of today) when Constantine moved the capital there during his reign. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed, the treasury was raided, and the artifacts were sold in the black market.
Jack then draws a picture of what he saw in Akhenaton's tomb" the hieroglyph depicted the Eye of the Star being encased in a gold box. He gives the drawing to Liz who requests that the image be put through their image library and see if there is anything on the grid about it. The database comes up with the artifact" the last it had been seen was 30 years ago" a private collector bought it from a small firm named Antaki & Son. Upon further inspection, the database pops up a picture of FUAD ANTAKI (late 20s, handsome, soulful) and NADIA RAMADAN. The two had attended University together and had been college sweethearts. Jack's takes the hit, while Liz forces him to call her, and get her involved.
Nadia agrees to come to Turkey and help, Tariq tagging along. The threesome go and visit ARMEN ANTAKI (50s, worldly, smooth). Fuad is away on business. Jack shares the photograph of the relic with Armen, who plays along, and divulges nothing, only that he remembers selling it and that he would look into it. Though our threesome know that he knows more, they decide to play along for now.
Our threesome head to the hotel, and while Tariq gets food, Nadia confronts Jack" she's realized that he's working with the U.S. government to retrieve the Star. He comes clean, she slaps him, he kisses her. They're at an impasse" though both focused on getting the Star.
While they're at dinner Littman pays an impromptu visit to Armen. Though Armen plays along, Littman spots Jack's photograph. Littman forces Armen to give him info on the buyer, IVAN ESKANDRIAN. Once Littman has the info, he kills Armen.
Jack gets word from Liz that Armen's been killed. She was able to also trace an e-mail that Armen sent his son Fuad with the buyer's contact information. She also tells him that the Istanbul police will probably want to question him, Nadia and Tariq and that Fuad's going to be back in Istanbul in the morning.
Jack informs Nadia and Tariq who are shaken. Later that night, INSPECTOR FATI of the Istanbul Police pays them a visit. After a brief conversation, he confiscates the passports and tells them he will be in touch.
Next morning, Fuad meets our threesome at their hotel. Fuad, though mourning his father's death, is happy to see Nadia again. It seems that their love affair had been doomed by his father years ago because she is Muslim and he is Christian. Jack and Fuad size each other up, while Nadia brings Fuad up to speed. If finding the relic would also deliver Littman, the man possibly responsible for his father's death, he will do anything to help.
Littman tracks down Eskandrian's home only to find out that Eskandrian died, his widow moved. Left with a cold trail, Littman asks Petrovsky to put a tail on Jack while he comes up with other information.
Fuad and our threesome visit the scene of the crime. Nothing of interest is left. Fuad knows that Eskandrian died" he and Fuad's father were friends and were members of the same church. Nadia recommends that they go to the Church for more information.
As they leave Antaki's residence, the foursome are followed by an SUV. Though they escape it's clutches, the Police is now after them for their reckless driving.
At the local Christian cathedral, Jack, Fuad, Nadia and Tariq meet with FATHER GEORGE, who tells them that Eskandrian left his estate to the Church in exchange for caring for his wife. She now lives at a convent in a small port town.
As they exit the Cathedral, Inspector Fati is there impounding their car, and arresting them. After some conversation, Fati releases Fuad but keep Jack, Nadia, and Tariq overnight. Jack calls Liz to request to be sprung from jail.
The next morning, Liz springs our threesome out of jail. They pick up Fuad and head to the convent, and meet with the WIDOW ESKANDRIAN who tells them that the relic they seek was bestowed to a Christina monastery in Konya (volcano country).
On the way to Konya, the foursome are stopped by a stranded motorist. That motorist is a patsy for Littman who used him to stop our foursome. Littman grabs our foursome and takes them to a boat on a lake on the outskirts of Konya. There he interrogates Jack" though he gets nothing. When he goes for Nadia, Fuad volunteers to go next. While away from our threesome, Fuad strikes a deal with Littman" let Nadia, Jack and Tariq live, he will help him get the relic. Littman agrees.
Nadia, Jack and Tariq are informed of the deal. Littman, his goons and Fuad leave, but not before one of the goons scuttles the boat with our threesome in it. The boat sinks, and our threesome barely make it out of there with their lives. They enroll a fisherman to take them to Konya.
Littman and Fuad get to the monastery where they encounter 30 monks. Though the monks offer only peaceful resistance, Littman is able to find the relic embedded into the altar. Once he gets the relic, he renders Fuad unconscious, phones Petrovsky and schedules a rendezvous to showcase the Star of Heaven's power. Once that's completed, Petrovsky will transfer $5 million in Littman's Swiss bank account.
Jack, Nadia and Tariq get to the monastery and find Fuad who updates them. Jack calls Liz and informs her. The foursome then get into a car and head in the direction of the rendezvous point.
As the sun rises, Littman gets ready to put the two pieces of the Star of Heaven together when Jack, posing as a Russian thug, disables Littman and grabs the Iris of the Star. He's buying time for Liz and her gang.
As our foursome seek higher ground, Nadia is uncovered by one of the goons. Afraid that Littman will kills Nadia, Fuad takes Jack's gun and offers them to Littman in exchange for Nadia. Littman agrees, gets Jack and Fuad, then orders to kill Nadia. Fuad, grabs Nadia, and takes two bullets to the back" killing him.
As Jack is about to be killed by Petrovsky, Liz intervenes popping a slug into Petrovsky.
While a firefight ensues, Littman is able to put together the Star of Heaven and uses it to kills everyone in sight. When a cloud cover hides the sun, Jack makes his move. As Littman and Jack fight, Littman loses his grip on the Star of Heaven. Nadia picks it up and destroys it by sending into a lava vent. Littman comes after Jack with a knife, and Jack sidesteps him and sends him into the same lava flow. Both Littman and the Star are destroyed.
With a week off before his next assignment, Jack decides to visit Damascus and spend some time with Nadia away from the madness.
